Dear Ojai Unified Staff, Families and Community, I enjoyed visiting the many awards ceremonies, celebrations, promotions and graduations during the last two weeks of school. The moments were beautiful, entertaining, and emotional. I heard many student-led speeches that were thought-provoking and inspirational and I saw performances that showcased the great talent so many of our students have developed during their growing years. I am truly in awe of our students, staff, teachers and families who have supported our students along the way to be their best selves, thrive in our schools and to successfully make it to these important milestones they will remember forever. This was especially significant given the challenging events that Ojai Unified has faced this year. I am grateful for the students, staff, teachers, administrators, parents and community members who have contributed to help make our transitions to our new configurations successful. The District has just completed the majority of the physical classroom moves. Our staff, site administrators and volunteers did an excellent job of packing and labeling boxes. This allowed the movers to stay on schedule. I want to personally thank those who helped pack rooms; I know it was a monumental task. Although the physical moves are mostly complete, we know there is far more work to be done to ensure our school merges result in strong positive school cultures where students are thriving. District and site leadership will maintain a continued commitment and effort throughout the 2023-2024 school year and beyond to ensure we accomplish this. We look forward to doing this work together with our staff, students, families and community partners. In addition to ensuring the smooth transition of our schools, one important next step for our District is to look at the vacant properties as well as vacant spaces on campuses to decide and consider the best District uses. District staff and the Governing Board are seeking preliminary input from our staff, families and community members. This input will help inform the Board in their next steps and actions in regard to District property uses. In order to collect input from community partners, we are sending out a survey which you can find the link here https://forms.gle/2ci41SRHFuSfwUKf9 and as well we are holding in-person community input meetings at the District Office Boardroom, 414 E Ojai Avenue, on the following dates and times: Tuesday, July 11, 2023 8:30AM Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 5:30PM Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 8:30AM Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 5:00PM We hope you are enjoying the early days of summer and wish you all a wonderful 4th of July tomorrow. Hello All! Leadership Associates has been hired by the Ojai Board to assist with a search for our next superintendent. They will be conducting two additional community forums. These are open to all community members who wish to share their thoughts on the desired qualities and characteristics for the next superintendent of Ojai Unified. Both forums will be held at the Ojai Unified Board Room. The first will be on Monday, May 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. The second on Tuesday, May 16, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. No signup is necessary.
