ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS CONFIGURATION DISCUSSION

At the September 20, 2016, Regular Meeting, the Board members received information and discussed two options relating to the elementary schools' configuration issue: 1) keeping all five schools open; and 2) keeping four schools open and closing Summit School. The Board voted 4:1as a tentative position to keep all five schools opens.

This tentative position was the subject of a public hearing on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the Matilija auditorium. After public comments, the Board members voted 4:1 to end the almost year-long study, beginning with the work of the 7-11 Committee in October 2015; thus keeping all five elementary schools open for the 2017-18 school year and thereafter.


All meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Matilija Junior High Auditorium at 703 El Paseo Road. English to Spanish translation will be provided by a professional at all meetings and the video/audio of all upcoming meetings will be available in English and Spanish on the District Web site.

Special Meeting - Wednesday, September 7, 2016 - Board analysis and discussion of the elementary schools' issue

Special Meeting - Wednesday, September 14, 2016 - TheBoard identified two options for further analyses at the September 20 Regular Meeting: 1) all schools remain open and 2) all schools except Summit will remain open.

Regular Board Meeting - Tuesday, September 20, 2016 - The Board members received information and discussed the two options related to the elementary schools' configuration issue: 1) keeping all five elementary schools open; 2) or to close Summit School, keeping the other four elementary schools open. The Board voted 4:1 to keep all five elementary schools open. The Board then scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, September 28, 2016, to obtain public comment and vote on the final plan.
