2019 GRADUATION INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS

Please review the following material carefully before commencement. A lot of planning has gone into the graduation activities with the focus on the students of the Class of 2019. The graduation ceremony is designed to give each student his or her "moment in the spotlight." It is important that everyone recognizes each student’s right to be the center of attention at his or her moment and does nothing to detract from this attention.

CAP & GOWN

When you get your cap and gown, take them out of the box, check them, and hang the gown on a hanger to let the wrinkles come out. A warm iron can be used if needed. If you don’t yet have a cap & gown, please contact the principal’s secretary, Amy Zuniga, at 640-4343, x1760. We have loaners.

CITIZENSHIP GRADE

All seniors must have a passing citizenship grade (No F’s) in order to participate in the graduation ceremony and/or Grad Night. The deadline to improve this grade to a passing level is 3:30p.m. Friday, June 7. Please contact Dean Jim Hall at 640-4343x1761, if you have questions.

TEXTBOOK RETURNS/ REPLACEMENT AND FEES

All textbooks, English Dept. Novels and library books must be returned no later than 3pm on Wednesday, June 12. Outstanding account balances for unreturned books, uniforms, and cafeteria charges are due and payable immediately. Transcripts for college and diplomas will not be issued with an outstanding balance on your student account. Follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Check your account in the NHS Library and Cafeteria.
  2. If you have lost a book, ask for the NHS LIBRARY REPLACEMENT LIST to see if your book qualifies for a more cost-effective replacement.
  3. Pay your fees by cash or check to NORDHOFF HIGH SCHOOL in the library to clear your account for graduation!

ThursDAY, JUNE 13, 6:30 P.M.- GRADUATION CEREMONY – NORDHOFF STADIUM

Seniors must report to the gym dressed in cap and gown by 5:45 p.m.  Clothing to wear under cap and gown: Please remember that while it is your graduation, it is a school-sponsored celebration for you and your family. Please understand that your attire affects the overall atmosphere of the ceremony for others. We ask that you refrain from wearing casual footwear and jeans in particular. Shorts would not be considered appropriate. Dresses, button up shirts, slacks, ties, etc. are all advisable and appreciated. When considering footwear, please remember that you will be walking on a grass field for part of the evening. Please be tasteful when putting messages on your graduation caps – if there are any that are considered offensive or inappropriate by the administration, you will be asked to remove it or be prohibited from wearing your cap or participating in the ceremony. No three-dimensional adornments are allowed – if they rise too high, they obscure others’ views.

We do not have a ticket system and have no limit on the number of guests you invite. Seating is, however, on a first-come, first-serve basis. THERE IS NO RESERVED SEATING AT THE STADIUM. GATES OPEN AT 5:00 p.m. Blankets left before 5:00 p.m. will be removed and stored in the press box.

We will have chairs on the field for those who cannot walk up the bleacher steps. Seating there is limited, so please have only 1-2 other people sit with the person who cannot walk up the steps.

Out of respect for our environment, please do not bring balloons, confetti or air-horns to the stadium.
