ParentSquare Message, December 29, 2020 :

Dear OUSD Families,

I hope that your family has been able to find some time during the holiday break to rest and engage in joyful activities.

Last night the school board met to deliberate on the return to campus after the winter break for our programs. Here is the summary of their decisions:

  • There is no change for Summit, Matilija, Nordhoff, and a Place to Grow, with the exception of our Special Day Class (SDC) programs. Distance learning will resume on January 4th.
  • Due to the small program sizes, students in our TK-12 SDC programs and Chaparral will return to the hybrid model in person on January 4th.
  • Our elementary students will have a "safety week" and are now scheduled for distance learning beginning January 4th, with a projected return to campus in person on January 11th.

ABC Clubs will be open beginning January 4th. We know how important extended hours in this program are for many of you, and we will be able to make that happen. Your school site will be sending out more information as soon as we confirm the details.

If you are not comfortable with your child being on campus for in-person instruction we have structured our programs so that distance learning is an option. Nordhoff and Matilija families will be receiving a survey in early January about your in-person attendance preferences so that we can build our schedules for the second semester accordingly. We are planning for an in-person return of these programs as soon as we are able to do so in accordance with public health guidance.

I know how hard this year has been for our families and students and I am hopeful that in the next few months we will begin to see improvement. We received word yesterday from Ventura County Public Health that as essential workers, school staff are in the second tier of vaccine distribution, with an estimated timeline of early February to late March. In the meantime, please stay safe and take care.

Dr. Morse
