Dear Ojai Unified Families,
As we close our first week of full Distance Learning, we want to share with you some new student and family services.
This weekend’s projected heat event could be dangerous for some families. We want to thank the City of Ojai for providing Cooling Centers this weekend, and we encourage our families to visit the centers as needed. Please visit the City of Ojai website for more information
As a reminder, Nutrition Services provided extra meals to students on Wednesday, September 2nd as there is no meal distribution this Monday due to the holiday. We will start service again on Wednesday, September 9. Also, the September 30th deadline for Free and Reduced Price Meal applications is approaching, and we want to ensure your family receives low price or free meal benefits once the program returns. Families may also qualify for additional services, including low-cost childcare and extended services through Family Fund. You can complete the application here.
Parent Support Groups
We understand that these can be difficult times for our parents and guardians, and we have developed a new program to support you; weekly Parent Support groups facilitated by a Marriage and Family Associate/Trainee or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Join weekly or as needed to ask questions and talk through challenges related to social or emotional wellness and school success. If you have children at multiple schools, feel free to join the support group that best works with your schedule. You can find the schedule in English here, en Español aquí.
Mental Health Services for Students
If you or your student are experiencing anxiety during this time, we want our OUSD families to know you are not alone in this. To ensure you have the mental health resources you need, we've developed a tool for online mental health services, allowing students to schedule a time to connect with one of our counselors via Zoom. We are providing this tool free for families. Click here for more information.
Technology Tent Fridays
If you or your student are having issues logging on or navigating any of our programs during Distance Learning, we invite you to join us at “Tech Tent Friday.” This new level of support offers in-person individual help with software or devices. You can also pick up tech gear such as hotspots or headphones. To learn more, click here for English, aqui en Español. For technical support through email or phone, please submit this Help Form
We are committed to helping Ojai Unified families connect to the resources you need. If you have a need, please fill out the attached ParentSquare form to let us know what would be of benefit to your child. We will do our best to connect you with resources. These resources are available through the support of our generous donors and partners, and all support is dependent on funding. You can fill out this form anytime throughout the year.
We want to thank our teachers and staff for their incredible commitment to the work we have before us. We have seen and heard many success stories of students and teachers engaging well in Distance Learning. We are working hard to ensure that we have the best program possible, and will be sending a survey next week so that you can provide feedback to help us grow and learn.
Have a wonderful and safe weekend.
